At URPS we believe that it benefits everyone when we minimise the effects of and adapt to climate change, as well as protect our natural assets and minimise resources use.
This is why it is so satisfying to have AdaptNow! Changing for Climate Change receive an award at the PIA SA Awards for Planning Excellence on Friday night.
AdaptNow uses innovative techniques to bring to life a cascading series of extreme weather events in the Western Adelaide region. Community capacity and resilience was built through role-playing workshops, film making and a significant public event. A variety of targeted resources also support the community and businesses to adapt to the impacts of climate change and extreme weather events.
Special shout-out to the Adapt West regional coordinator, the Cities of Charles Sturt, West Torrens and Port Adelaide Enfield, as well as Living Stories, for their support/involvement.
We were also excited to receive commendations for:
- Barossa, Light and Lower Northern Region Public Health Plan in the Community Wellbeing & Diversity category (thanks to the Councils of Adelaide Plains, Barossa, Gawler and Light Regional).
- Shaping Our Future: A Spatial Vision for the City of Mitcham in the Strategic Planning Project category (thanks to the City of Mitcham).
It’s the second year running PIA SA has awarded URPS in the Climate Change & Resilience category and the Community Wellbeing & Diversity category.
A gratifying 2022 for us with awards from the UDIA, the Institute of Landscape Architects, PIA National and now PIA SA. Great motivation for 2023.
