Transformation of Glenelg continues

Render of Glenelg apartment building

The recent approval of an 8 storey apartment building on Brighton Road designed by Alexander Brown Architects (ABA) continues the exciting transformation of Glenelg.

This is the third multi-level apartment project URPS has facilitated in the precinct for the Taplin Group in the last 12 months.

There will be 32 apartments in a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bedroom formats all afforded exceptional access to shops and public transport. Generous private balconies also provide uninterrupted views of the coast and Adelaide Hills.

The development will occur on top of an existing multi-level car park that supports the parking demands of the neighbouring shopping centre below. The design was sensitive to the proponent’s desire to ensure all existing retail tenancies within the shopping centre were able to operate without closure during construction.

The location of the development on the car park site also supported the shared use of car parking.  The many vacant parking spaces in the shopping centre can be used by visitors to the apartments after hours, an outcome anticipated by the planning guidelines but rarely achieved.

The development will improve and activate the Brighton Road streetscape.  It will also create a new and exciting architectural statement for Glenelg. The design was commended by the Government Architect for its “high quality expression” and its use of robust/durable materials suited to its coastal setting.

Great vision and commitment by the Taplin Group in Glenelg supported by great design ingenuity from ABA.
