URPS is pleased to present this exciting new training opportunity about the Community Engagement Charter.
Join engagement expert Nicole Halsey as she walks you through the Charter and shows you how to put it into practice.
Participants will learn:
- What the Charter says
- How the Charter works in practice
- How to plan and deliver your engagement so that it meets the principles of the Charter
- How to measure the success of your engagement.
The day will culminate in participants applying what they have learnt by developing an engagement plan for a hypothetical scenario in line with the Charter. A range of tools will also be provided for participants to take with them to their workplaces.
The training will also touch on other fundamentals of engagement such as how to:
- Undertake stakeholder mapping
- Create key messages for an engagement process
- Select appropriate engagement techniques
This training will suit professionals working in local and state government and private enterprise who interact with the planning system.

About the trainer-Nicole Halsey RPIA (Fellow) – Director, URPS
Nicole has been working closely with the Department for Planning, Transport and Infrastructure to help finalise the Charter, develop an evaluation framework to monitor its implementation and prepare the Guide to the Community Engagement Charter. This is coupled with Nicole’s extensive experience as an urban and regional planner with a specialty in community engagement. She has designed and facilitated hundreds of engagement processes for State Government, Local Government and the private sector. She is highly experienced across the engagement spectrum (ie processes that range from “inform, consult, involve, collaborate to empower”), and is known for designing processes that are creative, fun and encourage the active participation of all members of the community. Nicole is committed to engagement processes that inform the direction of projects in a meaningful way and ensure that all voices are heard.
