It’s not every day that we celebrate the elevation of one of our own to Life Fellow of the Planning Institute of Australia. Today is such a day with Angela Hazebroek receiving this honour at the PIA SA Awards for Excellence 2018.
Angela’s achievements as a planner are almost too long to list, but we’ve highlighted some of the things we think are special about her.
Angela is widely revered for her expertise in social planning, community engagement, strategic planning and visitor experience planning. She often works in areas that are considered to be outside the mainstream for planning, or with people who do not traditionally participate in planning and decision-making processes.
Many of Angela’s projects involve other professionals in disciplines such as social science, engineering, ecology and urban design. In these situations she is a tremendous ambassador for the planning profession focused on pragmatic solutions that have ecological integrity and support social and economic justice. She is also passionate about planning in regional areas and consulting with the ‘quiet’ sectors of our community.
Beyond her work as a planning consultant, Angela was the first Executive Officer of the Planning Education Foundation in South Australia in 1986. She was also President of the South Australian Division of PIA in 2009-10.
Being made a Life Fellow of PIA is wonderful acknowledgement of a wonderful career.
