South Australia’s Mitolo Group is investing $50 million in a significant expansion of its processing, packing, distribution and administration headquarters.  The planned expansion of the Group’s Virginia facility has been declared a “major development” by the SA Minister for Planning.  URPS is excited to be managing the planning process for this world class production facility.

The Mitolo Group is Australia’s largest potato supplier with more than 700 staff.  This investment reaffirms its commitment to South Australia – it will underpin the next 20 to 30 years of growth for the company.

The current site processes 150,000 tonnes of potatoes and 40,000 tonnes of onions a year.  When complete, the new 12,000 square metre facility will boost annual productivity by around 30% to 200,000 tonnes of potatoes and 55,000 tonnes of onions.

The new facility will include automated stock control and warehousing, a closed-loop water filtration system and a fully integrated enterprise resource planning system.   “We will create something that will be of the highest international standard, with best in breed technology and productivity,” said Mitolo Group Managing Director Frank Mitolo.

The anticipated completion date for the project is mid-2022, helping to guarantee the future for many workers in Northern Adelaide.
